Fashion Week: The Supima Design Competition
What: Nurturing young design talents are in vogue these days with the formation of CFDA. This year, cotton provider Supima has partnered with FIT, The Pratt Institute, The Rhode Island School of Design, and The Savannah College of Art and Design for mentoring eight designers chosen by each school. The race requires each designer to create capsule collections using Supima cotton. The designs will be judged on originality, execution, and reinvention.
Take away: with Saks' Steve Sadove in the audience and judged by a panel of insiders including Rachel Zoe, this is a one in a lifetime opportunity for the young designers graduating into a world where unemployment rate holds a steady 9.1 percent.
What we love: RISD's Connie Weng is our top pick for beautiful prints and silhouettes. (Photo: Top 2)
Who really won? FIT's Jusil Carroll with her constructions and leather accents. With this win Carroll won a mentor ship and $10,000. (Photo: Bottom 2) Congrats!!!
