A/W 12 Fall Preview

As Fashion Week kicks off in New York next week, no doubt trend-setters would wear the latest trends of Fall 2012. How to capture that distinctive look that's worthy of a Tommy Ton shot? Wear these:

Peplums

Peplums are here to stay. Why the trend? "Peplums offers illusion to the hour-glass figure that paid homage to old Hollywood. Plus it hides a multitude of sins," said designer Roland Mouret. This fall, peplums come in a variety of sizes and colors. Look for them in tops, in skirts, in jackets. Don't be afraid to play with patterns and texture (such as leather!), and remember to wear a slim, cropped pants or pencil skirt to balance out the silhouette. Leather

Give your beloved leather jacket a run for the money - leather is here to stay. This fall, look for them in stretchy leather leggings (pair THAT with a pair of Charlotte Olympia's sky-high platform pumps. YUM), leather sheaths, and you guessed it - your well-loved motorcycle jackets. Soften the look with a slouchy sweater, or a floating floral maxi dress that will transition well from summer to fall. Embellished Luxe

If you thought you've seen the most elaborate of statement necklaces in the past, think again. Designers really embrace the idea of embellish luxe this season - with bright baubles the size of palms hanging on everyone's neck. At Zara, even a simple sailor tee is now adorned with silver spikes and swarvoski crystals for a tough-luxe effect. Don't be afraid to pile on the accessories - and by all means wear that jeweled peter-pan collar with your white t-shirt. I. Dare. You.  (From Top: Lanvin A/W12. Photo credit: Style.com)

Tunics over pants

Blame it on Marc Jacobs for sending down the runway tailored dresses layered over pants. This is not your 90s grunge comeback with tattered jeans and flowing floral dresses. The A/W 13 version is all grown-up, with boxy tunics paired with tailored pants. For inspiration, look no further than Miu Miu's quirky sixties drop-waist sheath paired with matching cropped pants. The look should be clean and streamlined, not layered. (From top: Marni A/W12, Miu Miu A/W12. Photo credit: Style.com)

Have a great Fashion Week(s) and see you on Pininterest!
